Goals and Objectives of GATEWAI
: GATEWAI's primary goal is to give 30 students (50% of whom are targeted as minority and low income) over a period of three years a high-quality, academically excellent education in archives theory and practice underscored by a supervised internship leading to a certificate in archives within an M.S. in LIS degree, producing students as successful professionals with potential for leadership.

Key objectives include:
  • Develop the GATEWAI archives curriculum to reflect the digital world and its global reach.
  • Help minority and low-income students participate in GATEWAI through tuition scholarships.
  • Instruct students in the skills and knowledge needed to be a professional archivist.
  • Prepare students to work in a variety of archival settings from public and academic to corporate, museum and historical society libraries.
  • Provide opportunities for students to participate and network with archives professionals as members of associations and by attending conferences and meetings.
  • Increase the number and diversity of students in Pratt's archives program and in the profession
