The School’s
administrative offices are located in Manhattan at 144 West 14th Street, 6th
Floor. Most classes are held at the Manhattan Building. Its new facilities are
designed to meet the needs of LIS students and include two computer
laboratories, smart classrooms, a conference room, scanning lab, faculty
offices, a “cyber-café” available to students during building hours.
Library and
information science materials including books, reference materials, and
periodicals as well as access to online databases are available at PMC on the
4th floor. This year, owing to a government grant, SILS faculty and students
will be involved in selecting the most relevant LIS materials that,
importantly, respond directly to the needs of students and SILS new programs and
curriculum.
Working
collaboratively with New York's leading libraries and museums, courses are also
offered on-site at Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library, South Cout, 42nd St. and the
Metropolitan Museum of Art..
The school's listserv, sils-announce, is essential to keeping
up with SILS events and activities and all students are strongly encouraged to
subscribe.
We also encourage students to joint the SILS Student
Association (SILSSA) which takes a leadership role in student matters, advances
the student agenda for forums, activities and
dialogue.
