President, Lauren McBride

Vice President, Laena McCarthy

Secretary, Alicia Gibb

Treasurer, Bonnie Cohen-Lafazan

Meeting started by Lauren.

Beginning Business

Lauren quickly talked about the details of the LOC trip, including the acknowledgement of the absence of lunch and dinner times.  She will straighten this out.

Gradation Party will be May 10th from 6-8pm.  It must be open to all SILS students.

Spring Festival - we think the dates are the last 2 weeks of the semester.  The Dean would like any more additions in by the end of this week.

Graduation

Questions were asked about the Graduation at this point, so the topic moved back to that.

The Honors Convocation is the Thursday before graduation.  If you are part of this you will get an invitation.

There is open seating at the graduation.

We briefly discussed the space problem of how many people could fit onto the 6th floor for the party and the issue that the building policy does not allow children on campus.

There is a possibility if children come they will have to be on a list and their parent will need to sign a waiver.  Lauren must confirm this.

SILSSA is worried that if children aren’t allowed, graduates with children will not attend.

The main reason for the party is for graduates to say goodbye to their classmates and professors.

We came to the conclusion that we need to ask the Dean about procedures for Beta Phi Mu.

The point was also brought up that people who are graduating are ill informed of the process.

America Reads

The America Reads program was a success!  There were about 350 children there.  The face painting was a bit of a mob scene but it worked out!

Keyword

Keyword needs help with getting ads.  We also need column writers!  The due date was today but it’s a flexible due date that can be moved to the end of the week if necessary.

Elections

Must be an ALA member to run

We need a picture, bio and campaign statement from everyone to run (this should be emailed to Bonnie and Lauren)

Everyone is SILS can vote once, there will be a locked ballot box in the office.  Elections will be held next week, once the election is finished Lauren will count the ballots.

This is the official ballot:

President: Louis Munoz
Vice President: Nicholas Jackson/Julie May
Secretary: Alicia Gibb
Treasurer: Romel Espinel

Other Business

April 20th – De Zengotita Lazera Lecture! The author of Mediated,  De Zengotita Lazera will speak at Pratt at 6 pm in room 213.  Thanks to Dr. Walczyk for bringing this speaker in!

PMC now has a Bursar!  But no office for that person yet.  The Bursar’s hours are Monday thru Friday 9-5.

Pratt cards should be active by fall.

Caps and gowns are available in Brooklyn Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for pick up the week before graduation.
