Meeting Minutes

September 13, 2005, 5:30 – 6:30 pm, Pratt Manhattan, Room 610

SILSSA Officers in Attendance:

Michelle Dollinger gave an introduction and welcome to attending SILSSA members and talked about the ALA connection, offering registration forms for anybody who wanted to join ALA. 

Prof. Bencivengo introduced himself and talked about his participation with SILSSA and mentioned his upcoming Bibliographic Instruction workshops. 

Dean Giannini introduced herself and mentioned the Dean's Letter that is included in the current Keyword publication, handed out to new students at the meeting. 

Karyn Hinkle talked about her job as SILSSA treasurer and the SILSSA budget. 

Michelle talked about her role as President and SILSSA webmaster, as well as about information available on the website. She mentioned the upcoming H.W. Wilson visit in October and asked if anybody had a connection to Ellis Island for a visit. Mentioned strong possibility of doing a Credit Suisse and Entertainment Weekly site visit. 

Jen talked about the Library of Congress trip, asked for interested committee members to sign their names. Dean Giannini mentioned a connection at LOC, Deanna. 

Gayle talked about Keyword and asked attendees for contributions.

Michelle said that SILSSA is open to suggestions from students about what the organization should do and plan.

Michelle talked about the annual Spring Break trip and brought up the existing destination suggestions of Czechoslavakia, Hungary, Ireland, and Seattle. Somebody mentioned Los Angeles as a possiblity, with Getty and Huntington located there. 

Jen let us know that she is a representative at meetings about building concerns, and that we could let her know of any relevant questions/issues and that she would convey them at the meetings. She also passed around flyers and talked about upcoming non-SILSSA events such as The Annual New York Book Fair, Sept. 29's Beta Phi Mu fall lecture featuring Milan R. Hughston of MoMA, the September 15th scholarship workshop, and America Reads.

The dual SLA and SILSSA Sept. 28 presentation/lecture by Paul Schlotthauer, Pratt's Archivist/Librarian was also mentioned.

Dean Giannini mentioned the Pulse! Workshop, scheduled for Oct. 16, from 3 – 6 pm with Leslie Berger talking about transforming libraries.

Michelle adjourned the meeting.
