Where your name should go... and other important details
Last, but not least - you need to put your name somewhere on the paper!!! If your teacher wants you to write a cover page, skip this paragraph and go directly to the cover page instructions. If, however, you are not going to write one - you must still write your name, the due date, the name of the class, and the name of the professor on your paper. This is NOT the title - it is information that identifies the ownership and purpose of the paper. You will not go wrong if you write at least these things: Name, date, class, professor - on the right hand side at the top of the first page. Write this information higher on the page than the title. Some professors may want more information, i.e. the assignment number, question chosen etc. Ask your professor for specific instructions. An important tip: even if you call your professor (with his or her permission) by his or her first name in class, you should use his or her formal title, i.e. Professor Lastname, on written work. Make sure you spell his or her name correctly!!!!!

Cover pages
A cover page is a separate sheet that goes at the front of your paper. On the cover page you write the identification details plus your title. The easiest way to present a cover page is with the details written in the center of the page with the title either above or below. Some people like to be a little more creative and add graphics. You can experiment a little with your cover page, but remember that it is primarily for information - don't get carried away and obscure the purpose! Plain white paper with the details in the middle will do the job every time!
