the Institute
Pratt is an institute, an experience, and an idea. What started as a radical experiment to expand access to creative careers is now a community of 5,137 grad and undergrad students working across 48 programs with 1,200 dedicated faculty. 135 years in the making, this is Pratt.

Together, our faculty and staff have crafted an answer to one of the most common questions we hear: what is Pratt? In short—we provide the creative leaders of tomorrow the knowledge and experience to make a better world.
History
A lot has changed since 1887, but for us, the core of Pratt remains the same. Grounded on the same campus in Brooklyn and working to expand access to a new creative economy, we honor our past by continuing to create, innovate, and address the challenges of our time with our craft.

Strategic Plan 2025-2030
Pratt’s ambitious new strategic plan revises our mission, vision, and values, as well as sets high-level goals to ensure long-term institutional sustainability and to chart a course for Pratt to be the standard-setter among creative institutions.
