The Center for Art, Design, and Community Engagement K-12 was founded on the basic principle that all K-12 students deserve access to quality studio instruction in art and design. As we strive to ensure opportunities for all school-age children, we partner with others who share our goals to support programs and initiatives that close the opportunity gaps for children and young people from low income families in Brooklyn to education and employment in the creative fields.
Thom Mayne Young Architects Program
The mission of the Thom Mayne Young Architects Program (TMYAP), a collaboration with Turnaround Arts, is to increase access to architecture education and help prepare the next generation of architects. Thom Mayne is the founder and director of m0rphosis, 2005 Pritzker Prize winner, and Pratt Graduate Architecture and Urban Design critic-at-large. Students from Pratt’s School of Architecture work with Thom Mayne and Turnaround Arts to deliver architecture education in selected New York City public schools.

Rising Architects And Designers (RAD)
Rising Architects and Designers (RAD), a collaboration with Graduate Architecture and Urban Design, develops children and young people’s knowledge in architecture and urban design through hands on studio-based learning in selected New York City public schools. Graduate Architecture and Urban Design (GAUD) students develop curriculum and mentor young people in studio style classes focused on addressing physical and spatial challenges in their communities. Through research, ideation, and building three dimensional prototypes, young people act as the architects as GAUD students guide them through the design process.
