ABOUT:

The mission of the Pratt Institute Department of Campus Safety is to ensure a safe and secure campus that is welcoming and inclusive. The Department assists the Institute in maintaining and fostering a student centered, learning-focused, and diverse campus where community members and visitors can feel safe. 

The Department of Campus Safety provides 24-hour protection of the campus and maintains contact with the local police department (88th Precinct Brooklyn and 6th Precinct Manhattan). Police visit the campus at the request of the Department of Campus Safety for the purposes of investigating crimes

The Department’s primary goals are to protect the lives and property of the campus community and deter criminal activity. Campus Safety Officers are charged with the enforcement of Pratt Institute rules, regulations, and policies. Campus Safety officers are not Police Officers and have the same arrest powers as any other private citizen. Campus Safety Officers have the right to detain an individual(s) until police arrive on scene to execute a formal arrest.

REPORTING INCIDENTS:

Students, faculty, staff, and guests of Pratt Institute are encouraged to report emergency, suspicious, or criminal activity to the Department of Campus Safety. Victims of, or witnesses to any criminal activity may report an incident by calling the Department of Campus Safety at 718.636.3540/3541, or by dialing 3540/3541 from a Brooklyn campus phone. The number for the security desk at the Manhattan Campus is 212.647.7776.  You will either be asked to come to the booth to file a report, or an officer will be dispatched to you location. For off campus emergencies, please call 9-1-1 for Police, Fire, or EMS. You can also Text the Director at (347)497-0959 with any immediate, but non-emergency concerns related to officer conduct and Campus Safety operations.

Our Department is committed to maintaining and fostering a student-centered, learning-focused campus, in both Brooklyn and Manhattan, where students from all backgrounds can feel welcome and supported; as well as the protection of personal property, equipment, and facilities. 

The members of the Pratt Campus Safety team are highly trained public safety professionals, responsible for ensuring best practices are followed in the areas of campus safety, security, and emergency management. The members of our Department are on-duty 24/7 to provide public safety services, as well as piece of mind, to the Pratt Institute. As a campus community, I would ask each of you to partner with our department, as it is the responsibility of all students, faculty, and staff, to collaborate with Pratt Campus Safety to ensure a safe, secure and crime free campus. Should you encounter an unsafe situation, witness an accident or crime, or observe suspicious activity, I would request you promptly report the matter to our department, so that we may investigate the situation and respond accordingly.

Mobility Assistance:

Campus Safety and the Learning/Access Center have partnered to assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors requiring mobility assistance via golf cart or campus vehicle. This 24-hour per day service can be used on campus or between campus buildings.
Please contact Campus Safety at 718.636.3540 to request this service. This service is not available to or from your off-campus residence.  The L/AC can provide more details about requesting this service.

Emergency Notifications
  • Pratt Safe App– Free mobile campus safety app, developed by the Department of Campus Safety.
  • Security Updates and Safety Alerts- The Pratt Emergency Alert System is the quickest way to get vital information about building or campus emergencies.
  • Emergency Response Guide– Provides information on what to do in the case of an emergency situation and instructions on signing up for the Pratt Emergency Alert System.
  • Safety & Prevention– Provides community members with valuable safety resources, training, crime prevention lectures, and discussions.
  • Campus Security Committee– Pratt’s Campus Security Committee (CSC) acts as a forum for reviewing and improving campus security and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Annual Reports and Statistics– The Annual Security and Fire Safety Compliance Report includes Pratt Institute’s security policies, crime statistics, and on-campus student residential facilities’ fire safety policies and data. This report is published annually by the Pratt Department of Campus Safety.
  • Sex Offender Registry & Notifications– Includes information on Title IX and Pratt’s Sexual Misconduct Policy.
  • Self-Defense Classes– Teaches awareness, avoidance, space management, and a system of resisting assaults using simple to learn gross-body movements that take advantage of your natural instincts, which are easier to remember under stress.
  • Parking & Permits– Request a Yearly Parking Permit.
  • Pratt Shuttle Monday–Friday Schedule
