In addition to studio learning in art and design, Pratt Young Scholars are immersed in our College Access Program throughout their three years as Scholars. Guided by the curriculum developed by College Access: Research & Action (CARA) our program offers multifaceted assistance to our students throughout the college-seeking process:
- General college application assistance including solidifying college lists, and completing the common application
- SAT preparation
- College essay writing
- Financial aid advisement
- One-on-one college counseling with our on-staff College Advisor
- Guidance in selecting work for portfolio submission
The initiative begins early for our Pratt Young Scholars with college readiness and SAT prep classes offered during the first year. The program maintains the same level of rigor and attention through their second year, and, in their final year, Pratt Young Scholars are offered individual support (in addition to their group classes) and guided through the college application process. In addition, students work on their college essays with Instructor Brett Moses who helps bring their stories to life. View past examples. Families are our partners in the college seeking process and as such are invited onto campus for exhibitions and workshops throughout the three year program.
Over the past two years, 96% (of the 84% who reported) of Scholars have applied to and been accepted to two- and four-year colleges.
