Tips to Stay Well During Cold Season

Cold and flu season is well underway. Get your annual flu shot. 

It’s the best way to protect yourself and others from the flu.

The Student Health Center offers FREE FLU SHOTS to all students, regardless of your insurance! All matriculated students have access to services at the Student Health Center. Staff and faculty can get vaccinations from their provider, local clinics, and pharmacies.

A few tips on how to be well and stay well: 

  • Get your updated FLU and COVID shots.
    • Students – Keep an eye out for pop-up flu clinics around campus or make an appointment with Health Services
    • Staff and Faculty – Make an appointment with your medical provider 
  • Wash/sanitize your hands
    • 20 seconds with soap and warm water
  • Stay home if you are unwell
    • Communicate with your professor or supervisor about how you’re feeling and what accommodations they can make so you can stop the spread.
    • Can’t stay home? Mask up out of respect for those around you.
  • De-stress
    • Stress is an expected part of life but too much stress can negatively affect your body and mind. 
    • Students – Visit the Student Success Center to develop time management and study skills, drop in for a contemplative session with Mindful Pratt, or give yourself 5–10 minutes a day doing something you love. 
    • Faculty and Staff can also join the Mindful Pratt drop-in sessions offered throughout the week. 
  • Eat nutritious foods
    • Eat fruits and vegetables for important nutrients that keep your immune system strong. Here is a list of 50 super healthy foods that keep you going. 
    • Food insecure? Visit the Pratt Pantry at PMC or the Brooklyn campus, or apply for Courtesy Meals.
    • Staff, faculty, and students, consider Farm to Campus.
  • Take care of your mental health
    • The Counseling Center is here to help students who feel overwhelmed or feel their feelings interfere with their ability to function well. Email therapy@pratt.edu to make an appointment. Assistance is available 24/7 via phone at 718.687.5356.
    • Mental health services are covered by most insurance plans. Find a provider today by exploring WellTrack, Psychologytoday.com, or your plan’s website.
    • Faculty and staff in need of support can access benefits under their insurance plan or utilize Nivati, a holistic mental health platform that helps you stress less, feel good, and manage your mental health. Information can be found on the Human Resources page at onePratt.
    • All members of the Pratt community have free access to Tao Connect, which has mindfulness resources and self-guided modules to encourage positive change to your mental, physical, social, and financial wellness.
