The Pratt in Rome Program is hosting its first joint exhibition at its facilities in Trastevere this month. The Art of Being A Stranger presents drawings and texts from Karen Bermann’s forthcoming memoir (University of Toronto Press) of the same name. Cephalon shows a cross-section of Jason Vigneri-Beane‘s current generative artificial intelligence work on cyborg ecologies and near-future scenarios at the intersection of ecology, technology, media and design.

The exhibition offers two seemingly different bodies of work yet what they have in common is suggested by a recent review in Notiziarte: “The juxtaposition between Bermann and Vigneri-Beane develops as a dialogue between two apparently antithetical perspectives: on the one hand, matter, sign and autobiographical narration; on the other, code, digital abstraction and technological projection. However, their research converges at a crucial point: transformation.”

The exhibition was initially launched at Galleria Itinerarte in Venice and will now be on view for the month of April in Rome with a reception on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM in Rome.
