Ancient Egyptian art and design includes painting, sculpture, architecture, ceramics, furniture, textiles and other material objects produced by the civilization living in the Nile Valley from roughly 5000 BCE to 300 CE. For many people, ancient Egypt art seems static and unchanging, due to the strict artistic conventions that ensured some level of consistency throughout its history. However, a closer look allows us to see the many changes that took place over time. Illustrated lectures will explore ancient Egypt from the predynastic to the Greco-Roman era, as well as later "Egyptomania" and influence on modern film, fashion, and design.
