This course presents a synchronic investigation of interior design history through typological and thematic topics over time, place, and culture--examining political, economic, and social influences alongside spatial planning, scale, form, technology and materiality--in order to illuminate traditions and innovations as well as draw connections between societies and individuals. Attention to the field's latest critical accounts and historical research will allow for focus on underrepresented voices and environments.
