HAD-491 Pratt in Paris: Art on site Visual Rhetoric of French Art

Paris' role in the transformation of visual culture across the long nineteenth century continues to maintain a hold on the discipline of the history of art and design and contemporary culture. Why? This course immerses students in French art from the 18th-20th centuries through seminar sessions, on-site visits, and walking tours in order to critically investigate this question. Through discussions, readings, writing, and most importantly close looking of objects in Paris, students will engage in an in-depth study of the century's major themes andinterpretations.
