How has the moving image changed and changed us since the invention of cinema? Screen Cultures explores topics in film, video, television, and digital arts to examine the social, cultural and technological histories of the moving image from early cinema to video games and social media. By tracing how and why images migrated from the movie screen to the museum wall, the street and our smartphones, the course addresses the development of audiovisual technologies and charts the major shifts in the making and viewing of moving images in arts and media.
