FA-615P The Ecological Turn

Artists respond to pressing environmental concerns and predicaments through a variety of creative approaches. This course will challenge student artists to experiment with wide-ranging perceptual and conceptual approaches to art practices that tackle environmental and ecologicalsubject matters. Artists who center the ecological in their work employ a diverse range of approaches, from physical objects to performance, environmental intervention, community engagement and collaborative practices. Students will be introduced to theoretical reflections and art strategies addressing ecology and the environment through readings and lectures. Students will learn how to conduct interdisciplinary research and fieldwork and to develop strategies that engage a diversity of audiences. This course will allow for and support hands-on experience in an array of creative approaches.
