HAD-449P Women in Dada and Surrealism

3 Credits

Although their voices might not always have been heard, women artists played a central role in Dada and Surrealism, establishing a legacy for later feminist and queer art. This course explores the role of women artists in the Dada and Surrealist movements, examining critical interventions of women and female identifying and genderqueer artists into male dominated narratives. Through a thematic approach, we will analyze how women represented themselves as subjects with their own dreams and desires. To explore the ludic and collective spirit of these movements, we will take part in Dada and Surrealist games and artmaking.
