This course is designed for students to develop the ability to perform Beginner Mat Pilates exercises combined with Yoga Asanas for wellness. Students will be able to understand and perform the basic Pilates workout according to the inherent principles introduced as well as the most common Asanas found in Vinyasa yoga. The goals of Pilates are to achieve mind and body alignment; facilitate balance, flexibility and strength, improve posture and focus on the interconnected strength of the whole spinal system and trunk (core) muscles. Graduate students enrolling in this course will be expected to fulfill additional research, reading, and writing assignments.
