Nia DaCosta is a writer and director based in New York City. Her first feature film, LITTLE WOODS, starring Tessa Thompson and Lily James, was one of the 12 projects chosen for the 2015 Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab. The film won the Nora Ephron Prize at the Tribeca Film Festival and had its theatrical release on April 19, 2019 through Neon Rated. DaCosta has recently directed her second feature film, the Jordan Peele written and produced, CANDYMAN. The MGM horror film is currently scheduled for release in 2021. It was also recently announced that DaCosta will be directing the upcoming sequel to the Marvel Studios film CAPTAIN MARVEL, which is currently scheduled to be released on July 8, 2022. DaCosta has been supported by the Sundance Institute, New York Film Festival, the San Francisco Film Society and the Time Warner Foundation. Other projects Nia has worked on include: THE BLACK GIRL DIES LAST (short film, 2009), NIGHT AND DAY (short film, 2013), CELESTE (short film, 2014), LIVELIHOOD (short film, 2014), TOP BOY (series, 2019).
