An Evening with Photographer Sylvia Plachy
February 28, 2022 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Online
Free and open to the public; reservations required.
Don’t miss this special evening brought to you by Pratt Presents and the podcast Person Place Thing featuring the legendary photographer and Pratt alumna Sylvia Plachy. Randy Cohen, creator and host of the podcast, will interview Plachy about the person, place, and thing that are most important to her. The show is based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak, not directly about themselves, but about the things they care most about. The conversation will range from Plachy’s childhood in Hungary to her early influences, to the changing landscape of New York City.
A Pratt graduate, BFA ‘65, Plachy has had one-person shows at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Whitney Museum, the Queens Museum, and in galleries all over the world. Formerly a staff photographer for The Village Voice, she is now a contributing photographer at The New Yorker. Her iconic photographs have appeared in numerous publications, such as The New York Times, Fortune, Art Forum, and New York Magazine. She has also published six books of photography. In addition to receiving a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Lucie Award, she was honored with the Dr. Erich Salomon Award for Lifetime Achievement in Photojournalism from the German Society for Photography.
Pratt Presents is a curated series of public events developed by Pratt Institute that bring you big ideas, bold thinkers, and brilliant dialogue.
