Fascism and the Body, Postcarding Pizza Party

April 11, 2025 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM

Student Union, 200 Willoughby Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205

An abstract, geometric illustration in a style reminiscent of Eastern European Constructivism. The composition features a central, towering figure in a sharp, angular suit with outstretched hands, surrounded by smaller, dynamic figures in motion. The image uses a bold color palette of black, white, and red, with diagonal lines and fragmented forms creating a sense of movement and urgency. The figures appear to be engaged in various actions, some reaching forward, others running or gesturing, evoking themes of power, control, and collective struggle.

A Critical Conversations Event

Come to the student union to collage, design, and write postcards to be sent to your representatives and other organizations demanding continued protections of our rights! Blank postcards, collaging materials, markers, pens, stamps, and pizza will be provided. This event is a follow-up on the Fascism and the Body roundtable event held on April 9th, which concluded with a call to action. Now we want to rally our community to come together in a supportive making space to create, plan, and take action. Come at any point during the event period. Postcards will be collected and displayed continuously from April 11th-15th, when they will be mailed. Their display will express our community’s collective commitment to fighting fascism, protecting our rights, our bodies and our community.

This initiative is organized by the Transdisciplinary Discourse on the Body FLC as part of its mission to support body literacy at Pratt and supported by Pratt’s Academic Senate and the department of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies.

Kick-off postcarding and pizza party: April 11th, 11:30-2:30, Student Union

Culminating postcarding and pizza party: April 15th, 3:00-6:00, Student Union

This event is part of Critical Conversations: creating space for and educating one another about our multiple cultural contexts, activism, civil discourse, and academic engagement.
