As we come together for a new academic year, we form and reform communities across the campus whether through the new first-year Living Learning Communities or other circumstances and interests. Simultaneously in our courses and work, we examine community-building across geography, cultures, institutions, societies, materials and media.

On September 17th we will explore this theme together with Brooklyn Museum curators, Kimberli Gant, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Yekaterina Barbash, Curator of Egyptian Art, as well as exhibition designer, Lauren Bierly, Senior Exhibition Projects Manager.

We will hear about their work on community building through recent installations and exhibitions (including The Brooklyn Artists Exhibition) as we discuss how communities are built, strengthened, threatened, connected and engaged.

While the event is designed for first-year students who concurrently explore this concept in their classes, everyone in the Pratt community is warmly welcome to attend what promises to be a vibrant interdisciplinary conversation. Refreshments will be served.

First-Year Conversations is a regularly recurring set of conversations exploring how fundamental concepts are transformed when taken up in different media and disciplines.
