INTtalk: Designing Together with Irina Schneid
February 13, 2024 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM
Online
Touching on the work of the Pratt SoD Co-Design Studio, Designing Together introduces a framework for cultivating collaboration between students, disciplines, and communities. Shifting away from design as problem solving and towards design as community empowerment, this talk shares forthcoming faculty resources for amplifying and supporting community engagement in design curriculum.
Irina Schneid, AIA, is an architect, educator, and co-designer. She is the Founder of Scharc Studio and Impact Wrkshp. Deeply committed to expanding community outreach through her teaching and practice, Irina founded Impact Wrkshp as a springboard for participatory design.
Assistant Professor of Community-Engaged Learning for the School of Design, Irina has developed infrastructure and programming to support continuity in community engagement across the institute, fostering campus-wide dialogue on the topic of Participatory Education. The recipient of the 2022 Center K-12 Faculty Fellowship, 2021 CTL Faculty Fellowship and 2020 IIDA Impact Stipend Award, Irina is currently overseeing interdisciplinary courses and curriculum in participatory design within the School of Design, including the coordination of the SOD Co-Design Courses, SoD 401/601: Interplay: Ethics and Tactics of Co-Design, and SoD 405/605: SoD Co-Design Studio.
Irina has been profiled on Madame Architect, ArchNative, and Beyond the Built Environment. She has lectured and taught internationally, with teaching appointments at Barnard College, Columbia University, Temple University, Drexel University, CityTech, NYIT, and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne, Australia. Irina earned her B.Arch and M.Arch II from Cornell University and is licensed in New York and New Jersey.
