Making with Mycelium
April 3, 2025 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Pratt Sustainability Center, Engineering room 001
Are you interested in earth-friendly materials? Join us for a fun workshop on making designs and art with fungi, where we will delve into the fascinating world of molding fungi-based art and design! The workshop will be led by Amy Chien, a Pratt alumni and Biomaterials Studio Lead at Genspace, the world’s first community biology lab.
Our planet struggles with the urgent need for eco-friendly materials. The biomaterials industry is currently pioneering bio-based materials made from living organisms like fungi that can compete with existing materials while leaving a lower ecological footprint.
During this workshop, we will gain hands-on experience on the basics of designing with mycelium, the roots of fungi, as a sustainable alternative to traditional materials. You’ll get to grow your own mycelium art piece to take home – starting from a grow bag and mycelium substrate to sculpting mycelium with a mold.
LOCATION: Pratt Sustainability Center, Engineering Room 001
MATERIALS: All materials will be provided.
