Subliminal: Functioning below the threshold of consciousness

Designers who understand consumer psychology know that they must appeal to both the conscious and the subconscious when creating their designs. Engaging the subliminal is the X factor that can take a design from good to great. Designers can tap into the consumer’s psyche, appealing to all the senses in conscious and unconscious ways, heightening their enjoyment through sight, taste, touch, sound, and smell.

Designers of all genres—graphic, lighting, industrial, and beyond—engage the subliminal in every creation. They balance preconceptions, history, prejudice, and illusion, as much as proportion, color, form, and scale.

Pratt Institute’s 2023 Design Symposium will convene a distinguished panel of designers and industry leaders to explore the exciting ways in which the creative and the subliminal interact. Please join us for this special evening.

Supported by the Marc Rosen Education Fund.

This event will be recorded.
