Pratt Photography Lecture: Assistant Professor John Lehr

John Lehr was born in in 1975 in Baltimore. Lehr received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1998 and an MFA from Yale University in 2005. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn. He is an assistant professor of Photography at Pratt Institute.

Lehr has held six solo exhibitions, including: if there was, Kate Werble Gallery, New York, NY (2015); low relief, Kate Werble Gallery, New York, NY (2013); Stet, Kunsthalle at M + B Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2011); Gibberish at Hagedorn Foundation Gallery, Atlanta, GA (2011); and Stet, Kate Werble Gallery, New York, NY (2010).

His work has been shown in exhibitions including The Pure Products of America Go Crazy, the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ (2015); A Collective Invention: Photographs at Play, the Morgan Library & Museum, New York, NY (2014); World’s Away: New Suburban Landscapes, the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, MN, and Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA (2008); The Printed Picture, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY (2008); and Closer to Home: the 48th Corcoran Biennial, Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (2005).

Lehr has also been featured in exhibitions at venues such as Suzanne Hilberry Gallery, Ferndale, MI; Andrew Rafacz Gallery, Chicago, IL; the Yale University Art + Architecture Gallery, New Haven, CT and Klemms in Berlin, Germany. He has received reviews in publications such as Artforum, the New York Times, Art in America, the New Yorker, the Washington Post, Artinfo, the Brooklyn Rail, New York Magazine, Artnews, Collector Daily, and the New York Photo Review. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; the Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; the Morgan Library and Museum, New York, NY; the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT; the Center for Creative Photography, Tucson, AZ and the Denver Art Museum, Denver, CO.

Pratt Photography Lectures is a series presented by Pratt’s Photography Department to feature a diverse range of photographers, critics, and curators speaking about their work.

Lectures are free and open to the Pratt community and the public. Doors open at 6:30 PM for Pratt students, faculty, and staff. Doors open to the public at 6:45 PM. Space is limited.
