FILM SCREENING:

THE NEW BAUHAUS
The Life & Legacy of Moholy-Nagy

The Interior Design department is hosting a screening of THE NEW BAUHAUS: The Life & Legacy of Moholy-Nagy on Tue. Jan. 23rd at 6:00pm in Memorial Hall.

This 90 minute documentary explores the life and work of this influential artist, designer, and educator who brought his experiences as a teacher at the Bauhaus to the United States. Moholy-Nagy created The New Bauhaus in Chicago, a new type of school for designers that “integrated disciplines, looked at design holistically, and sought to use technology to improve lives.”

“THE NEW BAUHAUS is an odyssey through the life and legacy of László Moholy-Nagy, the innovative artist and educator whose pioneering approach to integrating technology into design continues to influence and inspire. The school Moholy founded in Chicago, The New Bauhaus, evolved from its origins at the German Bauhaus into an extraordinary flowering of interdisciplinary design pedagogy premised on the notion that “the whole field of contemporary architecture and design must be based upon an indivisible unification of formerly separated and independent fields.” Following recent retrospectives of Moholy’s work at major museums, this film offers a more accessible and intimate, emotional journey through Moholy’s life and his work as an artist, designer, visionary, and teacher.”

Following the screening there will be a Q & A with Marquise Stillwell who served as an Executive Producer on the film.We look forward to seeing you there! Attendance is mandatory for all Interior design students.
