Pratt Institute is rated one of the country's top graphic design and illustration colleges in the 2019 rankings published by Animation Career Review (ACR), a comprehensive online resource for aspiring professionals in animation, digital art, game design, graphic design, and related fields.
Among graphic design schools, Pratt rose in ACR’s national rankings compared to last year, ranking sixth (up from seventh in 2018), and placing in the top 1 percent of surveyed colleges. In private graphic design schools and colleges, Pratt also ranks sixth in the country (in the top 2 percent). Additionally, Pratt is fourth in colleges offering a graphic design-related BFA, and second in New York City colleges with graphic design programs. ACR noted Pratt's strong undergraduate and graduate programs in the School of Design, as well as the design certificate programs in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
This year, ACR published illustration rankings for the first time. Out of 40 illustration programs, Pratt ranks fifth in the nation, or in the top 4 percent of considered schools. ACR highlighted the associate degree programs in the School of Art and undergraduate programs in the School of Design and noted upper-level studio courses that concentrate on image-based communication, as well as the diverse elective offerings in everything from graphic novels to 3D modeling.
ACR considered hundreds of schools around the United States with programs geared towards illustration and graphic design. The rankings are based on academic reputation, admissions selectivity, depth and breadth of the program, and financial value.
