Pratt Institute’s interior design programs and undergraduate architecture program are ranked among the top 10 in the country according to America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools 2017, the newest edition of the annual survey of industry professionals coordinated by DesignIntelligence (DI), a publisher of research and information on emerging trends and management practices in architecture and design. The rankings are based on companies’ perceptions of how well colleges prepare their graduates for industry careers.
In the area of interior design, Pratt’s graduate program was rated first in the country, up from second in the 2016 rankings. The undergraduate interior design program was ranked second in the country, up from third in last year’s survey.
The Institute’s undergraduate architecture program was ranked 8th in the country, up from 11th in the 2016 rankings.
Industrial design programs have typically been included in DI’s annual surveys, but the results of this year’s industrial design survey were not published. In the “Summary Insights” section of this year’s survey findings, DI reported that the response rate was not sufficient to produce a statistically valid sample, but aims to include results for the discipline again in the future. Last year’s survey ranked Pratt’s industrial design programs—undergraduate (ninth) and graduate (10th)—among the top 10 in the nation.
DI has published America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools annually since 2000. The Design Futures Council (DFC), a global network of design community professionals, takes an active role in framing the content of DI publications, serving as advisors and authors.
