Pratt Institute’s interior design, industrial design, and architecture programs are ranked among the best in the country, according to a recently released annual survey of industry professionals coordinated by DesignIntelligence (DI), a monthly architecture and design journal. The rankings are based exclusively on companies’ perceptions of how well colleges prepare their graduates for industry careers.
Pratt’s undergraduate architecture program was ranked ninth in the country, up from 11th in 2014 and 2013’s rankings. It was also ranked fourth in the region.
The Institute’s undergraduate interior design program was ranked second in the country and first in the regional category for Eastern colleges. The graduate program was ranked second in the country and in the region. In an interior design skills assessment, Pratt was ranked #1 in the category of research and theory and #2 in the categories of communication skills, design skills, computer applications, cross-disciplinary teamwork, and sustainable design practices and principles. Academic leaders ranked Pratt’s undergraduate program as the fourth most admired of its kind in the country, citing its strong design program and collaborative studios. The graduate program was ranked second most admired in the nation for its strong professional connections and collaborative teaching environment.
The Institute’s undergraduate industrial design program was ranked third in the region, and the graduate program was ranked fourth in the country and second in the region. An industrial design skills assessment rated Pratt fourth in the area of design skills and second in sustainable design practices and principles. Deans and chairs ranked Pratt’s undergraduate program as fifth most admired of its kind in the country for its solid international outlook in design. The graduate program was ranked fourth for its design focus and opportunities for specialization.
The rankings are included in DI’s 2015 issue of “America’s Best Architecture and Design Schools,” which has been published annually since 2000. DI is issued by the Design Futures Council (DFC), a global network of design community professionals, including leaders of architecture and design firms, manufacturers, and service providers.
