Fashion design student Mila Sullivan (B.F.A. Fashion Design ’17) combined her passion for nostalgia, vintage fabrics, and classic Hollywood films to create a final thesis collection that reinterprets glamour through modern silhouettes and deconstruction. For Sullivan, there is glamour in things that are a bit tarnished and worn. She finds beauty in unexpected places, whether it’s a thrift store item with an interesting past, or the layers of one of the garments from her thesis collection that suddenly become visible through the movement of a model wearing it.
Sullivan’s collection was selected to be shown in the 2017 Pratt Fashion Show on May 4.
This short video takes an inside look at her inspiration and creative process.
