From red carpets to music videos, pop stars continue to wear designs by Pratt graduates from a range of disciplines. In recent months, alumni have stolen the spotlight with looks that showcase their creative use of materials, colors, silhouettes, and more.
Below are just a few recent examples of pop stars wearing one-of-a-kind items by Pratt alumni.
Hot Girl Summer
In the music video for her song “Hiss,” Meghan Thee Stallion can be seen wearing a custom hat by Laurel Dewitt, BFA Fashion Design ’06, as well as a crystal neckpiece by Sarah Sokol, BFA Interior Design ’11. Both Dewitt and Sokol have become highly sought after by celebrities for their opulent and original designs.
Down South
Beyoncé also tapped both designers earlier in the year. For her music videos “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages,” the multi-platinum artist wears three designs by Dewitt: a metal bra, a chain dress, and a hat. Sokol, meanwhile, designed two hats for a Verizon commercial that Beyoncé starred in.
Brat Summer
Charli XCX put an indelible mark on the summer of 2024 with the release of her album Brat and its accompanying lime-green aesthetic. In a recent cover shoot with GQ, she was seen with a necklace designed by Marland Backus, BID ’15.
Pink Pony Club
During her meteoric rise to stardom this summer, pop and fashion sensation Chappell Roan enlisted Mila Sullivan, BFA Fashion Design ’17, for a custom outfit. The wispy and elegant look consists of a corset, skirt, sleeves, and more.
Red Carpet Glamour
The actor and singer Annaleigh Ashford showed up to the 2024 Grammys Awards in a sheer mini dress adorned with silver flowers that was designed by fashion powerhouse Oscar de la Renta, which is helmed by Laura Kim, BFA Fashion Design ’04.
