A number of Pratt faculty and alumni participated in exhibitions and events during Art Basel Miami Beach from December 4-7, including those listed below. In addition, Pratt presented Pratt Digital Arts, an exhibition with partners LG Electronics USA and Surface magazine, during Art Basel Miami Beach as part of the Pratt Presents public program series. Work by Fine Arts alumni Nick Fusaro and Alex Ito was featured in 24/7, an exhibition organized by Alex Bacon and Harrison Tenzer for Rail Curatorial Projects that was held at MONTE CARLO.
Carla Gannis, assistant chair, Digital Arts
Assistant Chair of Digital Arts Carla Gannis’ s The Garden of Emoji Delights was on view at hypersalon, a collaboration between TRANSFER, XPO Gallery, and Hyperallergic. Gannis gave a talk on her work as part of hypersalon’s artist panels, and was featured on a BOMB Magazine panel, “The Artist, The Writer: A Conversation Between Creative Identities,” a talk curated and moderated by Legacy Russell with Amy Beecher, Bibi Deitz, Marisa Olson, and Gannis at ARTHAUS/ART TALKS. Gannis also showed work at FREEDOM, an Art + Technology + Music Five Day Gala Event, in the Wynwood District, as one of the artists working with BLACKDOVE.
Everett Kane, assistant professor, Digital Arts
Kane’s collaborative work with Carla Gannis, Escape Pod, will be featured in a forthcoming Hyperallergic catalog as part of the Art Basel Miami Beach hypersalon.
Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic (B.F.A. Communications Design ’04)
A custom installation by Mestrovic debuted at the VH1 and SCOPE Art + Music event at SCOPE.
Naturel (Lawrence Atoigue, Graphic Design, 2001-04)
Work by Naturel was featured at Inner State Gallery’s exhibition at SCOPE.
Lyle Owerko (M.S. Communications Design ’98)
Oweko’s series “The Boombox Project” was on view as part of “The Dean Collection” at SCOPE.
Patrick Rowe (M.S. Art and Design Education ’14, M.F.A. Printmaking ’13)
Work by Patrick Rowe was featured at SCOPE along with work by other recent Rush Arts Gallery Artists in Residence.
Claudia Sohrens, visiting assistant professor, Undergraduate Communications Design
Work by Sohrens was on display at the Miami Photo Salon Festival at Temple Israel.
Swoon (Caledonia Curry, B.F.A. ’02)
A mural by Swoon could be viewed on the Wynwood Walls. Her work was also featured at Chandran Gallery and “The Dean Collection” at SCOPE. In addition, Amniotic, a collaborative underwater installation by Swoon and Monica Canilao, was presented by the Chandran Gallery.
Mickalene Thomas (B.F.A. ’00), visiting assistant professor, Fine Arts
Thomas’s installation was on view in Kavi Gupta Gallery's booth in the Kabinett section of Art Basel at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
