Agnes Walden is a painter concerned with transgender subjectivities and the ways in which attempts to describe trans life are conditioned by allegory. Her paintings and writing have been featured in publications such as New American PaintingsASAP/Journal, and Saatchi Art’s 2021 Rising Stars Report. She was a 2023-2024 Milton & Sally Avery Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Past solo exhibitions include Aurora Consurgens at Launch F18 in New York, Favors at An Sylvia Exhibitions in Chicago, and Laundry Day at AMFM Gallery in Chicago. She holds an MFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in Studio Art from Colorado College. Before her current position at Pratt, she taught as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Drawing at Rhode Island School of Design, where she also designed and taught Theorizing Trans Cultural Production, RISD’s first course in Trans Studies. Walden lives and works in New York.
