Alexis Karl

Biography
Alexis Karl is a filmmaker, multimedia artist and perfumer, founder and perfumer of Scent By Alexis and co-founder and perfumer of House of Cherry Bomb. Her fragrance work has been both exhibited as art, and sold as perfume nationally and internationally. Karl is a regular lecturer on fragrance, fashion and art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art , The National Art’s Club, and The Morbid Anatomy Museum, where she held the post of House Perfumer and exhibiting artist. Karl has taught a multimedia perfume inspired class, The Art of Perfume at SVA and The Cult of Fashion and Art of Scent at Pratt Institute. Karl received her MFA in figurative painting at The New York Academy of Art, Graduate School of Figurative Art, and BFA in painting at Cornell University. She has taught college and graduate level figurative painting and multimedia art as well as fragrance and fashion history at The Ashcan Studio of Art in conjunction with SVA, and has exhibited her paintings, film, multimedia art, fragrance, and performance works both in NYC, Italy and UK; most notably with Stephen Romano Gallery at Scope Art Fair, The Whitney Biennial, Corcoran Museum of Art, and The Morbid Anatomy Museum. Her work has been featured in The New York Times: Women in The World, Atlas Obscura Magazine, Ephemera Magazine, Elysian Treasure Magazine, The NY Post, London Times, Art News, ARCO Japan, Elle Magazine, Allure Magazine, Lucky Magazine, Time Out New York, The View, NBC, CNN, Salford City Radio, UK and WMBR Radio, Boston. Karl’s film, The LEX Requiem, won” Best Experimental Film” at Katra film festival, and “Best Experimental Film” at The Bowery Film Festival, and has been screened as a finalist and official selection various European festivals. Karl is a Joan Mitchell Grant recipient, and a finalist in the Art and Olfaction Awards.
