Biography
Anna Philip is a Swedish born Fashion Designer who came to New York City in the early 1990s to pursue her career after graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. Through 20 + years’ of experience, she has worked in all aspects of design, most recently as a menswear designer with previous experience in women’s and children’s wear. Her experience spans from original concept development to final production including pattern making, product design and development, and creative direction. During her tenure at Polo Ralph Lauren, she held the position as Senior Design Director of The Men’s knitwear department, the largest division of the company. Previous to Ralph Lauren, Anna worked for Calvin Klein, Marithe´ & Francois Girbaud, and Kenneth Cole among others. Her expansive experience ranges from working with factories, mills, and vendors both locally, domestically, and internationally. She has excellent versatility in product development, design, and production. This knowledge supports her teaching students a realistic approach to what is possible to make and guide them through their ideas and develop them into a final product.
Anna always treasured teaching and sharing her knowledge and experience with her teams. In 2013 she was awarded the opportunity to teach at Parsons School of Design and FIT. She immediately felt that she had found her calling and has been teaching since. She cherries the creative process and finds it especially rewarding to support her students through their practice. Her prior teaching experience is from Parsons School of Design, FIT and Marist College.
Anna works as a consultant in the Fashion Industry, focusing on designer startups providing the knowledge and guidance of how to bring a product from its initial idea through final production.
