A paleoanthropologist and primatologist by training, Ashley Bales’ current research centers on transdisciplinary and embodied learning pedagogies, bridging the fields of Biological Anthropology, Anatomy, Sustainability, Evolutionary Biology, and Design. Through her explorations into how the body is—and isn’t—taught in higher education, she advocates for integrating body literacy learning outcomes into general education programs.  As an instructor her teaching is geared toward helping students understand how to integrate biological and ecological concepts into their worldview, challenging them to use evolutionary theory to help situate themselves in our current geologic moment.
