Edward D. Re, Jr. AIA
Professor Re has over 40 years experience in the construction and real estate industry. As a Registered Architect, Professor at Pratt Institute, Certified Professional Constructor, New York State Qualified Continuing Education Instructor, OSHA approved Site Safety Director, Certified Environmental Inspector, Certified Real Estate Appraiser, Edward Re has received numerous industry awards. Prof. Re earned his MS in Facilities Management, a BS in Construction Management at Pratt Institute and an AAS in Construction Technology at New York City Technical College. Re completed all of his formal education in the evening while renovating buildings in New York City and managing his real estate holdings.
As the president of Con-Solid Contracting, Re directed, with full P&L, all aspects of the construction company that generally centered on the NY-metro area. Con-Solid Contracting’s work included; new buildings, executive offices, gut renovations, historic restorations, road building, underpinning existing structures, remodeling stores, rebuilding bridge exit and entrance ramps, sub-surface highway work, computer room relocations and the creating and building of insurance companies disaster recovery sites. Con- Solid’s client list includes the US Federal Government/General Services Administration, New York City’s Department of Highways, New York City’s School Construction Authority, Consolidated Edison, Empire City Subway, Tams Engineering, Nynex, Transport Workers Union, Lancer Insurance Company, Systems House Limited, the Government of Tunisia, Turner Construction’s Division of Special Projects in Canada and Bolefin International. Early on, Prof. Re recognized the change in the building industry from contracting companies to construction management firms and in 1978 set out to form the “Construction Management Association of America”.
Prof. Re has given speeches and lectures through-out his career for Shanghai University in Comparative Real Estate, Hong Kong University in Economic Development, NYC’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services in Continuing Education in Architecture and Engineering, New York University and of course, Pratt Institute. Prof. Re’s technical construction expertise has been sought after in many complex projects through-out the United States, most notably, the roof repair of New York City’s Grand Central Station above active subway cars, pile replacement under the NYC Belt Parkway without traffic interruption, compressing floors in a Wall street building thereby increasing the amount of stories without affecting the façade, converting numerous loft buildings into luxury apartments and the archeological excavation of the Historic Black Cemetery across from One Federal Plaza in Manhattan.
Professor Edward D Re, Jr. was Knighted by the Government of Italy- Legions of Merit, received the “Appreciation Salute” from Congress of Racial Equality, was presented the “Distinguished Educator’s Award for Excellence” by both the New York and New Jersey Chapters of IFMA and remains particularly proud of his “Golden Hammer” he received from the Pratt Institute Construction Management Alumni Association.
