Jonathan is a Puerto Rican Design Researcher, Strategist, and Educator based out of Brooklyn, New York. His works and interests are driven by the intersection of complex systems and human experiences. Currently, Jonathan is a Director of Product Design at Newlab. At Newlab, Jonathan is responsible for the design and delivery of research, insights, and applied strategies that can spark new product / new service innovation. Before joining the Newlab Team, he spent close to 4 years working at Johnson & Johnson as a Senior Design Strategist. There, Jonathan was responsible for care-centered research and experience insight generation that led to new care paradigms for people across multiple disease states including (Tuberculosis, Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Alzheimer’s, Crohn’s Disease and others).

Beyond his professional practice Jonathan is an Educator, focusing on Graduate Studies in the fields of Product Design and Industrial Design. His primary areas of focus include Design Research and Practice as well as Graduate Thesis Studios. Jonathan has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, the School of Visual Arts in New York, and now at Pratt Institute. Jonathan holds a Masters Degree in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island and a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (professional degree) from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.
