Biography
Laura Salazar-Altobelli is an Assistant Professor in the Undergraduate Architecture program at Pratt Institute. A Peruvian architect and cofounder of the collaborative practice salazarsequeromedina, her work spans civic projects engaging diverse communities to publicly-funded affordable housing. Having completed built work in Peru, Spain, South Korea, and the US, Salazar has earned international recognition. Her practice has been showcased at the 2023 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, featured in prestigious publications like The Architectural Review, and achieved Outstanding Project recognition for the Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize for Emerging Practice. Through practice and teaching, her research addresses the environmental impact of building and aims to establish a dialogue with the as-found. Her work considers the transmutability of building function and the role of open-ended structures as two vectors capable of reconciling building practice with the challenges of our time.
Salazar has previously taught as a Visiting Critic at Syracuse University and as a Visiting Scholar at Montana State University. She is a graduate of Princeton University, where she received a Master of Architecture in 2017.
In 2024, she was the recipient of the Independent Projects Grant conferred by The Architectural League and NYSCA, and was shortlisted for the Arquia/Proxima Festival. Her practice exhibited an installation at the XIII Ibero-American Biennial for Architecture and Urbanism.
