Biography
Melanie Schmidt is an artist, designer and educator. Her career as a costume designer specializes in theater, dance and opera performances; costume design work includes Pledge of Allegiance, Code of the West, Hansen’s Cab, The Night They Burned Washington, How to Build a Better Tulip, Hansen’s Cab, Hollywood Pinafore, Brother’s Keeper, The Mound Builders, Talley’s Folly, Moo, Cumulus Frenzy, The Tender Land and Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame; costume production work as a theatrical artist includes dance performances for Juilliard, Alvin Ailey and the Radio City Rockettes; in television for The Sopranos, One Life to Live, Guiding Light, Fashion Rocks and The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric; and for numerous Broadway shows including Merrily We Roll Along, Caroline or Change, The Cher Show, Sunset Boulevard, Jersey Boys, Jesus Christ Superstar, Memphis, Wonderland, Lucky Guy, Mary Stuart, The Year of Magical Thinking, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Wedding Singer, Hairspray, Amour, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Play On as well as The New York Philharmonic’s productions of Das Rheingold, Sinatra: Voice for a Century, Petrushka, Showboat, A Dancer’s Dream, Joan of Arc at the Stake, Sweeney Todd, Showboat, Camelot and Company; for Carnegie Hall productions of Four Preludes on Playthings of the Wind, Candide, Der Rosenkavalier, member of I.A.T.S.E.; judge for Daytime Emmy Awards; work featured in The New York Times.
