He is also the visiting assistant professor at Pratt Institute Graduate Architecture and Urban Design and research faculty at Center of Climate Adaptation. He is interested in combining advanced spatial ideas with existing urban conditions. He considers architecture’s theoretical discourse of form, program, and representation as crucial as its concerns for social context.

Since 2011, Poyao has worked for various offices worldwide, including Kengo Kuma Associates, Oyler Wu Collaborative, Coop Himmelblau, and Morphosis. He was the design project lead concentrated on digital fabrication at Quarra Stone Company before founding POSITION. He has previously served as a teaching assistant at SCI-Arc, a research assistant at Harvard GSD, and Lab manager at SCI-Arc Shanghai program, respectively. He was a lecturer for several workshops in Taiwan and was a final jury at SARUP at UW Milwaukee, Pratt Institute, and Chung-Yuan University.
