Stephens is Professor of 4D Foundation & Cultural Studies at Pratt Munson in Utica, NY where she has also served as Gallery Director. She also teaches in the Social Sciences and Cultural Studies Department at Pratt Institute and received her PhD from the innovative Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts (IDSVA). Stephens has also taught at the School of Visual Arts, Hunter College, F.I.T. and Hamilton College.

She creates video, installation works and large scale photographs to explore issues related to cultural and individual identity and has exhibited nationally, throughout museums and galleries in the United States including the Museum of Latin American Art, the Frost Art Museum in Miami, Fl, The Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University in NY, the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine, the Delaware Art Museum, the Everson Museum and internationally in various locations including Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Triennale di Milano in Milan, Centre de Cultura Contemporania in Barcelona and Atelier-Haus/Galerie ZeitZone in Berlin. She has also curated various shows throughout the United States including “conversationXchange,” a series of exhibitions that create a platform for cultural exchange between artists based in the Caribbean and those within the diaspora. She is also a part of a select group of artists at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ.
