3D Printing Center

The 3D Printing Center is Pratt’s centralized hub for 3D printing and 3D scanning. The facility is open to students and staff of all disciplines. We offer a variety of 3D printers and materials to fit different stages of the design process—from prototyping, to printed waxes for lost-wax casting, to presentation-quality resin prints. More information on the 3DPC capabilities can be found on OnePratt.

• Artec handheld 3D scanners –  Eva and Spider models for large and small objects

3D Printing Submission Guidelines

Files are accepted in .stl format ONLY. Please export each model into a separate file. Submissions are only taken online through OnePratt and must be paid for using PrattBucks.

Once you sign into OnePratt, select Production from the list of icons, or go to Technology at the top header, and then select Production. From there, you can access all the production centers on Pratt’s campus, including the 3D Printing Production page.

Your object must fit on the print bed. Print bed sizes are:

• TAZ 6 (PLA): 255mm (10”) x 255mm (10”) x 250mm (9.8”)
• Prusa i3 mk3s (PLA): 250mm (9.84″) x 210mm (8.3″) x 210mm (8.3″)
• Objet 30 Prime (Resin): 294mm (11.5”) x 192mm (7.5”) x 148 mm (5.9”)
• FormLabs 3B (Resin): 140mm (5.5”) × 140mm (5.5”) × 185mm (7.2”)
• Solidscape (Wax): 152.3mm (6”) x 152.4mm (6”) x 101.6mm (4”)

All files for 3D printing must be checked for errors prior to submission in Autodesk Netfabb, now available through OnePratt’s LaunchPad. Your file will be checked in the lab before your submission will be accepted. Scans must be approved by the manager and are appointment basis ONLY.

Pricing for 3D Printing

Pricing for each material is based on material used (including support material as necessary), print time, and for plastic, the chosen quality.  Students may submit a file for a quote by submitting through our online submission form. Once the model is approved, we will ask you to approve the charges by email.

RESIN TIP: Hollowing your objects for resin printing will result in a much cheaper print!

PLA TIP: To print in plastic on the TAZ 6, your object must have a flat surface that can be placed on the print bed. You may have to cut your object so there is a flat surface. For organic shapes, it can be a smart idea to cut your file in half and glue the two halves together later.

Naming convention – files for all printers must be named in the following convention:

• Year.Month.Day.Onekey.process.description.quantity
• Ex: 2020.06.23.amota.Wax.CubicTop.x2
