Lee Friedlander and the Printed Picture focused on Friedlander’s contribution to photography and the photobook. The Photography Department and the Pratt Institute Libraries exhibited all of Friedlander’s books and held a panel discussion with Friedlander, Richard Benson, Peter Kayafas, and others involved in Friedlander’s photographic career.
Visual Design Alphabet
THROUGHOUT SEMESTER

This project launched the first phase of the development of a Visual Design Alphabet to present to incoming sophomores in interior design. The project—a visual powerpoint primer that could also be a printed document—has the potential to be an insightful and useful tool for teaching across the design disciplines.
Landscape and Ecology
1-CREDIT COURSE RUN DURING THE SEMESTER

This experimental, collaborative, one-credit interdepartmental course studied the transformation of landscape from a variety of perspectives. The course provided a critical look at the many factors that shape our uses and understanding of landscape. It drew on research in art history and artistic practice to study the transformation of the natural landscape into shaped urban spaces and virtual presence with the aim of developing tools for critical intervention.

This event featured work by a new wave of artists who have worked on socially engaged projects. The symposium explored the role of the public in socially engaged art and the nature of the public’s commitment to space and place in its relationship to a social engagement that formulates new social imaginaries.
