This project is the very beginning of a research project that I am hoping will grow into a research accelerator and then a research lab at Pratt. The research is focused on the multiple ways that AI is influencing and changing the film industry and how the AI filmmaking tools can have other applications outside of the film industry -- which currently approaches AI as a threat. This project will still be in its opening stages during the research open house, but I am excited to connect with my colleagues and Pratt community to discuss this increasingly polarizing topic.
Specifically the goal of this extended research will be focused on connecting the new AI video tools that are emerging every day and their uses for alternate communities and purposes outside of the traditional film industry. The idea of AI filmmaking in diverse communities is rooted in over two decades of pedagogical work with Black and Brown students from around the world.
The largest barrier to creating viable industry preparatory programs is access to tools, skills, and equipment.
This research includes the rise of "Clean," "Sustainable" and "Artist Driven" AI, and I look forward to having these early conversations with my perrs in the research lab. I am still exploring how exactly I will design my research Yard experience, but I would like to use a table top and lap top to support people generating their own AI images to expose people who have otherwise not had access to generative AI.
The Images contained are from similar applications of early stage experimentation to create dialogue around the technology.
