Climate Studio Initiative

By Jennifer Whitburn

"Climate Studio, an initiative supported by the National Science Foundation in collaboration with BEAM and Tellos Learning. Its mission: to expand climate literacy and promote climate justice through the creation of public art. We believe that raising public awareness to climate issues will strengthen participation in the democratic process.

This summer, the initiative will support artists, scientists, and educators to collaborate with youth from New York City. Over a six-week period, these groups will work together to create a series of high-profile public-facing projects that showcase the transformative power of the arts for learning about and engaging with our planet and the challenges it faces. Researchers will document and analyze the co-design process and resources will be created to share with others climate literacy advocates interested in hosting similar projects in their communities.

This exhibition will serve as an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the project, and contribute to our Urban Community Design approach, which is centered on collaboration and integration of multiple perspectives. The visitor experience will include an interactive experience that will inform the content of the project. We will highlight student work created through our partner, Beam Center. "
