Sound Seats

By Jon Otis
"Sound Seats endeavor to inform, enlighten and provide ‘well-being’ through the integration of sound within interior space. The Pratt Creative Xchange research and investigation of spatial interpretation and experience through sonic interventions will explore neuroscientific methodologies to facilitate empathic interventions.
We maintain that this can provide a better sense of wellbeing, provide neurodiverse experience, and the PCX intends to collect data throughout this process.
We will create a prototype for temporal furniture, that we term “Sound Seats”. With this initial work, we propose to install a freestanding, contained spatial element{s) into various interior environments and public spaces, that will welcome employees, customers, researchers, health care professionals and students to experience controlled sound.
Participatory design processes will be developed as beta methods that can be utilized to understand and document interactions and experiences within the Sound Seat installation(s).
This can be used as a technique for the design incubation of a series of installations in various interior environments that could potentially be fabricated and then sold. We intend to document the process through various mediums, including digital interfaces & live interviews."
